莫吉隆斯症的患者會感到有昆蟲、寄生蟲一類東西，在自己皮膚底下爬行蠕動，搔得滿身傷痕流血流膿，產生一些很難癒合的傷口，並分泌大量條狀纖維，企圖拔出會令人劇痛難當。
莫吉隆斯症患者也會無法集中注意力、有關節痛、睡眠紊亂、脫髮，甚至牙齒脫落，而且一旦感染，終生不愈，但不肯定會否傳染。目前尚未有自行好轉病例，也沒有醫治方法。
據非營利組織莫吉隆斯症研究基金會指，全球病例已超過2,000宗。“莫吉隆斯症”是一種令人毛髮發直的恐怖疾病。
